Getting to the Conference Venue (NRIAG)

The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) is located in the Helwan district, south of Cairo. Below are the recommended routes to reach the venue from key entry points, central hubs, and recommended accommodation areas:

1. From Cairo International Airport (CAI):

  • Recommended Method: The most convenient option is using a ride-hailing service (Uber/Careem) or an official airport taxi.
  • The Route: The drive typically takes 45 to 60 minutes, navigating through the Ring Road and merging onto the Autostrad highway heading directly south towards Helwan.

2. From Sphinx International Airport (SPX):

  • Recommended Method: As SPX is located further west in Giza, arranging a ride-hailing service (Uber/Careem) or a pre-booked airport transfer is highly advised.
  • The Route: The journey takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes (depending on traffic), utilizing the Ring Road or the Regional Ring Road to cross into southern Cairo and reach the Helwan district.

3. From Tahrir Square (Downtown Cairo):

  • By Metro (Fastest): For a cost-effective and traffic-free journey, take the Metro (Line 1) from Sadat Station (located at Tahrir Square) in the direction of Helwan. Stay on the train until you reach Helwan Station (the final stop). The metro ride takes about 45 minutes.
  • By Car: An Uber or taxi ride from Downtown takes about 40 to 50 minutes, usually following the scenic Nile Corniche or the Autostrad highway southwards.

4. From Helwan Metro Station:

  • Recommended Method: The institute is situated on an elevated plateau a few kilometers from the station. We highly recommend taking a local taxi or requesting a short Uber ride rather than walking.
  • The Route: A brief 10 to 15-minute drive winding up the main road (Al-Marsad Street) will bring you directly to the NRIAG main gates.

5. From the Fifth Settlement (Golden Tulip El Narges Hotel):

  • Recommended Method: Using a ride-hailing service (Uber/Careem) or a pre-arranged conference coaster bus.
  • The Route: The drive from New Cairo (Fifth Settlement) to Helwan typically takes 40 to 50 minutes via the Ring Road and Autostrad highway, providing a direct route to the institute.

6. From Maadi (Road 9 - Maadi Metro Station / McDonald's area):

  • By Metro (Highly Recommended): Since this location is directly in front of the Maadi Metro Station, simply take Line 1 heading south towards Helwan. It is a direct, hassle-free ride taking approximately 20 to 25 minutes to reach Helwan Station. (From there, take a 10-minute taxi to NRIAG).
  • By Car: An Uber or taxi ride from Maadi takes about 30 minutes, heading south via the Autostrad or the Nile Corniche.
